This musical brings the magic of storytelling to life in the most colorful way imaginable.
Inspired by the beloved Drag Story Hour movement and its backlash in small towns across the USA, this musical celebrates inclusivity, creativity, and the power of self-expression.
Ripped from the pages of last year’s national headlines, this wild ride is a microcosm of the hundreds of violent drag story hour protests that marginalize gay youth, pitting fundamentalist homophobes against woke Yoo-Hoos as they wrangle over free speech, religious intolerance, identity and inclusion, responding to hate with humor and hope.
With an all-star cast and melodic score, DQSHTM is pointed but never preachy, a rallying cry during Pride month to Be who you are!

Development
Inspired by the closing of Rockwell Public Library in 2023 and the discovery that hate groups violently protest drag story hours over 141 times a year nationally, Neal wrote and composed the first draft in a month, produced an audience-participatory reading of it at Crandall Library which garnered two front page stories — and then rewrote and polished it for a year with feedback from a trans comedian and a trans librarian who lived through the original events. He dedicates this production to Jake Evans and Claire.
